THE CLOTHES CLOSET
The Madeira Woman's Club operates The Clothes Closet, a clothing resale shop, at the historic Hosbrook House at 7014 Miami Ave., Madeira, OH 45243, selling clothes to raise money for the club and its public service projects.
ART FAIR
The Madeira Woman's Club sponsors the annual Madeira Art Fair, held the first Sunday in May, 11:00-5:00, rain or shine. Miami Avenue is lined with white tents full of fabulous offerings including water colors, oil paintings, pottery, photography, jewelry, and other art. Food and beverages are on sale and music is provided by the Hills of Kentucky Dulcimer Club.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The proceeds from the sales at the Clothes Closet resale shop and the Madeira Art Fair fund three college scholarships each year. This year's scholarships of $2000 each will be presented to two graduating seniors and an adult woman who is continuing her education at college level.
CHARITABLE DONATIONS
Other money donations have gone to Senior Citizens, Tender Mercies, Salvation Army's September 11th New York City disaster recovery fund, Food Bank, and Organ Transplant fund for Patrick Wood, to name a few. The Madeira/Indian Hill Fire Company usually has a list of needed equipment that we help them purchase. In the past this has been anything from mannequins to supplies and equipment used by paramedics. Each year we purchase $400 to $500 worth of batteries for the many toys and electronic equipment used by patients in the Shrine Hospital of Cincinnati.
OTHER PROJECTS
Other projects include Ohio Reads tutoring and organ transplants. We participate in Madeira community activities, the Madeira Holiday Walk, and the Memorial Day and Fourth of July Parades. The MWC does the judging for the Madeira City Council annual Christmas home decoration contest.
MEETINGS AND SOCIALIZING
Club meetings feature entertaining and informative programs, such as:
* "Conveying Your Thoughts to Readers" by Paul Daugherty
* "Tai Chi" by Ed Bunch
* "Politics -- Good and Bad" by Tom Brinkman, former Ohio Representative
* "Domestic Violence" by Judge Heather Russell
* "Mower Boy" by Roger Grein
* "Women's Health Issues" by Dr. Matt Finke
* "Beauty Has No Age" presented by the Cincinnati Art Museum
* "The Wish Book" by Rhonda Keith Stephens, author and MWC member
The MWC is a strong center of Madeira's social community. Members have toured Green Acres in Indian Hill, attended fashion shows in Oxford, Ohio, participated in Girls' Night Out, gone to the Cincinnati Art Museum, and shopped at a furrier in Kentucky.
A small group of Madeira Woman's Club members get together the fourth Monday of each month to discuss books they have read, choosing a different book each month. Madeira Library orders several copies for the group so each person does not have to buy the book the group is reading. Lively discussions take place each month.

The Madeira Woman's Club is a member of the national General Federation of Woman's Clubs.
